Use the Online Authoring tool to create test questions to store in the question bank and create tests based on the questions in the question bank. Question Switches to the Create Question section. Test Switches to the Create Test section. Preview Lets you preview the question. Close Closes the question form. Create questions Grade Choose the grade level the test applies to, or enter a new grade. Subject Enter the test subject. Note It is better to enter the test subject rather than the class subject. This makes the questions easier to identify in a list of questions for multiple tests. Question Code Click Generate to produce a question code. Introduction Enter information about the question, such as the general topic or specific subject matter. Properties Points Choose the value of the question. Number of attempts Choose the number of times students can change their answer for this question during the test. Shuffle answers Select whether to shuffle the correct answer. For example, a multiple choice question might list B as the correct answer in one instance, but might move the correct answer to C in another instance. Provide Feedback Select whether to let students know if their answers are right or wrong after each question. Pick a Question Type Multiple Choice Question Enter the text students will see when they get this question. Answer Enter up to four possible answers for the question. Select the radio button that corresponds to the correct answer. True/False Question Enter the text students will see when they get this question. Answer Select the radio button that corresponds to the correct answer. Matching List Question Enter the text students will see when they get this question. Item to Match Enter the text for each item that needs to be matched. Matching Answer Selection List Enter the answer that corresponds to each "Item to Match". Short Answer Answers for short-answer type questions must contain an exact string match (case insensitive) to one of up to four acceptable answers. Question Enter the text students will see when they get this question. Example: "What is the formula for the area of a circle?" Answer Enter the answer for the question. Example: "pi times r squared" Acceptable Answer(s) Enter up to four alternate acceptable answers. Example: "PI R SQ" "pi*r^2" "PiR2" "pi * r squared" Fill in the Blank Answers for fill-in-the-blank type questions must contain an exact string match (case insensitive). Question Format Choose whether the blank will fall at the end of a statement, the beginning of a statement, or in the middle of a statement. The statement format will change accordingly. Blank fields Enter the given information in the white space(s) and the expected information in the blue space. Other acceptable answers Enter other answers that are acceptable, or other formats of the same answer, if applicable. Numerical Question Enter the text students will see when they get this question. Answer Format Select whether students must enter an exact numerical answer, or if there is a numerical range of answers that are acceptable. If students must enter an exact answer, indicate a value in the "Accepted error" field by which they can be over or under the exact answer and still be correct. Leave blank if there is no acceptable error value. If students can enter an accepted range, list the numerically acceptable values in the "From" and "to" fields. Create tests Note You create a new test by adding existing questions from a question bank. If you have not already added questions for the test, go to the Create Question section first. Subject Enter the subject that the test applies to. Test Code Click Generate to produce a random test code, or enter a code. Introduction Enter information about the test, such as the type of test, general topic, or specific subject matter. Properties Click to open the Test Properties and adjust settings for the test. Add Single Question tab Use this tab to add an individual question to a test from a question bank. Grade Select the grade level for the test from the list. Subject Enter the question subject. Question Code Select the desired question from the list. Introduction Displays existing introduction content for this question once the question has been chosen from the list. Date Automatically displays information. Created By Automatically displays information. Add button Adds current question to the test. Previous button Scrolls to the previous question in the question list. Next button Scrolls to the next question in the question list. Open button Opens the current question. Note You cannot edit the question in this view.   Add Multiple Questions tab Use this tab to add multiple questions to a test. Grade Select the grade level for the question from the list. Subject Select the question subject from the list. Test Code Select the questions to add from the list. To add a single question, highlight it and click Add. To add a group of questions that are listed together, highlight the first question, then hold down the Shift key and click the last question, and click Add. To highlight multiple individual questions, hold down the Ctrl key as you click each question, and then click Add when finished. Questions you have already added will have the FirstClass symbol beside them. List Questions in Test tab Use this tab to view the questions you have added to the test. Questions Lists the questions you have selected for the test in order of how they will appear on the test (unless randomized). Up Moves the highlighted question up in the list. Down Moves the highlighted question down in the list. Open Opens the selected question. Delete Removes the selected question from the test. Add Students tab Use this tab to add students who will be taking the test. Access Unrestricted gives all users access to the test if they try to load it. Restricted limits access to the test to those students listed in the Selected Students. Student Enter the name of a student. Click List to populate the dropdown field with student names you can choose from. Selected Students Displays selected students. Only these students can access the test if Access is set to Restricted. Add Adds a selected student to the list. Delete Deletes the highlighted student(s) from the list. List Populates the Student field with existing students. Clear Clears all students from the list. Test properties Use this section to adjust settings for the test you created. General tab Question tab Result tab Date/Time tab General tab Test Instructions List the instructions for the test. Display Instruction Screen Select whether students will see the instructions listed in the Test Instructions field. Passing Score Choose the percentage that will indicate a passing score. Store Test Results Choose whether to archive the test results for each student. The default is Yes. These results are stored in Online Administration > FCOT on the administrator Desktop. Question tab Allow students to skip Questions Select whether students can bypass questions and have the option to return to them. Show Attempts Select whether to show the number of times the question has been attempted. Pick questions at random Select whether to randomize the questions that are given for each student. Number of questions to pick Choose the number of total test questions to display. Questions will be displayed in order unless "Pick questions at random" is selected. Example 1       If you create a new test and add 100 questions, all 100 questions will be presented in sequence. 2       If you edit the test by deleting 10 questions, all 90 questions will be presented in sequence. 3       If you edit the test by adding 20 questions, all 110 questions will be presented in sequence. 4       If you edit the test by selecting "Pick questions at random" and changing "Number of questions to pick" to 100, 100 out of 110 question will be presented in random sequence. 5       If you edit the test by unselecting "Pick questions at random", the first 100 out of 110 questions will be presented in sequence. Result tab Show Instant Result Select whether to show the result of students' answers after each question. Display Final Result on Completion Select whether to show a final result after the test is completed. Email Final Result on Completion Select whether to send students an email with their results after the test is completed. Display message Select whether to display a custom message to students after the test is completed, indicating whether they passed or failed. Enter the custom pass/fail message in the appropriate fields. Date/Time tab Time Limited Test Select whether students will be limited to a specified time frame. Duration Specify the timeframe students will be limited to. Note This will only apply if "Time Limited Test" is selected. Reminder Set the number of minutes before the test ends that students will receive a reminder. Availability time period Select the start and end date and time from the dropdown calendars.
